Although the whole Principal’s Office site is a professional development resource, this section sharpens the focus on ways to Develop Your Staff. Professional development activities that have proven effective will be included in this section. Your contributions are welcome.

This section also includes Events and Announcements—upcoming activities, information sources, or services that tend to be regional, statewide, or national in appeal. If you know of any items that fit in these categories, please send them to principal@osu.edu.

Civic Values Essay Contest

The Bill of Rights Institute, a nonprofit educational organization in Washington, DC, is sponsoring the “Being an American Essay Contest.” This contest challenges high school students to reflect on the civic values important to good citizenship and describe in up to 750 words which civic value(s) are most important, and how civic value(s) can be incorporated in daily life. Last year, more than 31,000 essays were submitted, and 180 students and teachers were awarded cash prizes. The submission deadline is December 1, 2009.
