Theme: Ethics
Ethics is at the forefront of the national news at this time with primary elections taking place. This month the Principal’s Office turns to the issue of ethics and fairness in the work of principals. ISSLC Standard 5 states that, “A school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by acting with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner.”
The Stories from the Field segment features a framework for understanding how ethics and values influence decision making by a principal. The Political Landscape feature presents highlights from Education Updates by contributor Joan Platz. In the Professional Readings this month, the Principal’s Office turns to the Archives and reruns an important piece, “Professional Code of Ethics: Principles and Principals.”
As we watch the democratic process unfold in the upcoming presidential election process, may we be mindful that our schools equally rely on our ethical judgments and decisions that affect our work everyday.
