Funding and Resources for Service-Learning

Funding for K-12 Service-Learning Programs

Learn and Serve Ohio supports service-learning programs that provide youth with opportunities to learn and develop by bringing together classroom instruction and community service. Grants are awarded to local education agencies that engage students K-12 in opportunities to help communities address education, public safety, human and environmental needs. Funds are used to create new programs, replicate existing programs and provide training and development to staff, students, and volunteers.

Toledo Public Schools Partner with Community to Provide Service-Learning

The University of Toledo Office of Service-Learning and Community Engagement, United North, and Toledo Public Schools have collaborated in the creation of a Community-Based Learning Center at Woodward High School. Through the University of Toledo’s Great Cities, Great Service grant, NorthRiver’s Weed and Seed network has connected 89 Woodward students to service- learning projects in the community. Among other projects, students from the high school and from the university have been working together to implement a North Toledo Neighborhood Survey, including businesses, residents, teachers, and students, in an effort to discover the assets of the community and how best to use them.
