Pave the Road to Maximum Teaching and Learning, Part 1

This column is the first in a three-part series that will give you the information needed to plan and conduct a classroom management workshop with your staff.

Part 1: Prepare Yourself
Part 2: Develop the Workshop >
Part 3: Deliver the Workshop and Follow Through >

Prepare Yourself

Be the Facilitator

Besides the obvious issues of cost and substitute availability, sending teachers out for training rarely results in improved practice over time, and the teachers who need development most won’t take the opportunity.

Bring your staff development back where it belongs—your school, with you as the chief facilitator. This “you-can-run-but-you-can’t-hide” approach will reach all teachers and put you in the role of instructional leader.

Take Time to Read

What time would that be? If you’re like most of us, you feel as though you’re already doing three things at once. But these readings are short and to the point—guaranteed. And you’ll be able to use them in your workshop packet.
