Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Resources for Professional Development

Service-Learning Professional Development Modules

Created by James Toole of Compass Institute and the University of Minnesota, a CD offers three professional development modules that contain off-the-shelf materials that are easy to use by teachers and teacher educators.

  • The 90-minute module focuses on learning the change framework of adoption, implementation, and institutionalization for service-learning.
  • The 4-hour workshop adds guidance for participant reflection on all three change components.
  • The third module is formatted as a group discussion for study groups that meet five times rather than in a single workshop.

The CD was adapted from a W.K. Kellogg Foundation retrospective study of its 18 service-learning grantees over a 10-year period. Download the CD >
