Policy into Practice Covers Vocab in School

The Ohio Resource Center has published Issue 6 of Policy into Practice, which supports the effort of districts to achieve the Ohio Third Grade Reading Guarantee. “How Should We Teach Vocabulary” is co-authored by Evangeline Newton, University of Akron, and Nancy Padak, Kent State University. They offer suggestions that include teaching word analysis strategies using word roots, providing time for students to read independently, and ways to improve students’ vocabulary.
